1 month

Daxton is 1 month old today!! Time has flown! I can't believe how much he has already changed and grown in only 4 weeks. Here are a few things we've learned about Mr. Dax...

  • He is a little grunter
  • He loves his binky
  • He is a great sleeper
  • He has little chicken legs and a long torso so we're having problems figuring out what size clothes he fits in
  • He loves to snuggle on Mom or Dad's chest
  • He has a very mellow personality
  • He is starting to enjoy his baths more
  • He doesn't like being naked or getting his diaper changed
  • He smiles, laughs and frowns in his sleep
  • Mom's nickname for him is "Squishy", Dad's is "Daxy"
We love our little munchkin!!!

Well, for those of you who want to hear it, here's the "birth story"....

Friday morning we woke up to a phone call from the hospital letting us know they were ready for us to come in to be induced at 9:30 am. We couldn't believe it was actually time! The night before I was having some serious nerves but surprisingly that morning I was just excited. We got to the hospital and by 11:00 am they had broken my water and started me on pitocin. Around 12:30 pm I was ready for my epidural and my Mom and Dad came to keep us company. At 2:30 pm Mark's parents arrived and I was dilated to a 6. About an hour later I started getting the shakes and couldn't stop. It was really annoying but the nurse and my mom said it was completely normal from the hormones and stress my body was going through. At 4:00 pm Abbie and Brendan came and we started up an intense game of Skip-Bo! :) Everyone was just hanging out, eating treats (so rude) and playing cards waiting for him to get here.

Close to 5:00 pm the nurse came in and had me roll on my side and put oxygen on me because his heart rate took a deep dive. It was pretty scary for a minute but I just kept praying it would go back up and everything would be ok. They stopped the pitocin to see if it would help him. By this time I was already dilated to an 8! I was so relieved I was progressing because it was one of my biggest fears that I wouldn't.

At 6:30 I was dilated to a 9 and they started pitocin again. By this time Melissa and Josh had come to hang out with us all. My doctor came in a minute later to see which way he was facing and of course he was the complete opposite direction! He had me push for a little while while he turned him around. After that, I was to  a 10 and we were ready to go! Everyone went out to the waiting room and got dinner and at 8:12pm he was born!

It was such a sweet surreal moment for Mark and I that we will never forget. We only got to see him for a minute because he was really pale. They whisked him away to the nursery pretty quick and Mark got to go with him. Right after they left my family all came in to keep me company. By this time my Grandma had come too. I tried to eat something but was so, so nauseous! They gave me something for the nausea and took me downstairs to the nursery to go see him. I had quite the entourage following me down.

I was wheeled in right as Dax was getting his bath. Mark and I had another minute with him just looking at him and then they took us to our recovery room and said they would bring him in shortly. It wasn't until about 10:00 pm that Mark finally got to hold him. Everyone had stayed so they could get a good look at him and take pictures. By 10:30 pm everyone left and we were alone.

The first night was quite rough. I wouldn't stop bleeding so the nurses were up with me most of the night plus we were trying to get Dax to nurse. We missed the opportunity to right after he was born because they took him away so quick. He was so sleepy it was almost impossible by the time we go the chance. Mark and I figured we had had a total of maybe 2 hours of sleep that night. Dax was a pretty good boy though.

The next morning our adventures didn't stop. Our new nurse came in and was helping me to the bathroom. The toilet looked a little clogged so she flushed and before we knew it it was overflowing. Not just a little like what happens when your toilet at home overflows, it was a waterfall!! She ran out and started picking all our stuff off the floor while I tried to get back to my bed. Then she ran out the room calling for help. Nurses from all over came in trying to help her get it to stop. Finally, after a few minutes it stopped. By that time we had about 3 inches of water in our room!! It was crazy!! They wheeled us into a new room the whole time apologizing profusely. We just laughed and couldn't believe that had happened after our long, long night. We later found out that they pumped 70 gallons of water out of our room and that it had leaked down into the front lobby of the hospital! Mark got the whole thing on video and the rest of the weekend all the nurses wanted to see it. The hospital gave us a gift basket and they are even replacing Mark's ipod that got damaged. It was crazy but we will never forget it!

We had so many visitors come see us! I wish I would've gotten a picture with everyone but here are just a few.

Bethany

Great-Grandma Janet

Uncle Brendan and Aunt Abbie

Grandma

Finally, Sunday they decided we were ok to go. They had been watching me a little more closely because of my bleeding and I had ran a fever when I was in labor so they were keeping a close eye on Daxton to make sure he didn't have any infections or anything. We were so ready to go home!

Our AWESOME nurses Jessicca and Hailey

We're home!!!!

Oh that face...it kills me...
